First Tech Robotics Competition
Our senior robotics team made up of Year 10 and 11’s have been meeting weekly all season to design, build, and programme a robot that can rise to this year’s challenge, ahead of competing in the global First Tech Challenge. Throughout the season they have worked with industry experts from Collins Aerospace to develop a range of employability skills such as: problem solving, working collaboratively, building confidence and resilience to build and test a robot that can complete a series of challenges against the clock.
For this year’s finals, they headed to RAF Cosford, where they battled against other schools and colleges from not only the UK, but international teams too! The team faced last minute technical failures on the day, with motor failures, and programme issues. The team pulled together, drawing on their strengths and experiences to overcome the challenges to qualify in 7th place, taking them through to the knock out stages of the competition. During the knockout stages, their team alliance finished in third place; giving them lots to take away from this season to be proud of, and reflect upon in readiness for the new season in September.
