Curriculum Statement of Intent:
At Aldersley High School, we offer a broad and balanced five-year curriculum, allowing students to develop a passion for learning across a wide variety subjects. Our curriculum raises the aspirations of our students; encouraging them to become well-rounded, employable individuals and future leaders.
The heart of our curriculum is knowledge based: teachers ensure that the knowledge they are imparting during lessons is challenging and purposeful at all times and allows students the opportunity to make cross-curricular links where appropriate and be fully prepared for the next stages in their education, employment and training. We use knowledge books and knowledge organisers to support students in their acquisition of knowledge and revision and recall across all subjects.
Through a knowledge-rich approach, we provide our students with the opportunity to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the subjects studied. This greater depth of learning is seen across all five year groups and beyond within our Amethyst Sixth Form.
Most students study the full range of English Baccalaureate qualifications up to the end of Year 11, alongside further qualifications from a range of creative and vocational based subjects.
Our curriculum promotes British Values and social, moral, spiritual and cultural development, alongside ensuring that all subjects support our students in becoming literate and numerate, and creative problem solvers.
Furthermore, our extra-curricular offer encourages students to take part in a range of activities including a plethora of sporting teams; regular showcases of Creative and Performing Arts subjects and the opportunity to gain a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
