The main role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership and work with the headteacher and staff to ensure our school provides good quality education and continues to strive for excellence through supporting, promoting and monitoring learning and learning outcomes.

The Strategic Role

In this role, governors:
• Play a lead part in planning and setting School Improvement Priorities and directing school resources
• Set policies to ensure the school achieves its aims and objectives together with monitoring and evaluating progress towards them
• Focus on raising standards of achievement, establishing high expectations and promoting effective teaching and learning so that every pupil achieves his/her full potential
• Ensure that there are systems in place to monitor progress. Use evidence to review progress against targets to see whether policies and practices are effective.
• Benchmark school achievements.

The Critical Friend Role

In this role, governors:
• Act as a source of challenge to the headteacher as well as providing support and guidance
• Recognise and celebrate achievements and under performance
• Encourage strategies and bring about improvement.

The Accountability Role

In this role, governors:
• Discuss, question and refine proposals while respecting the professional roles of the headteacher and other staff and their responsibilities for management of the school.
• Are prepared to account for the school’s performance and to explain its decisions and actions to anyone who has a legitimate interest.

I am the owner and Publisher of West Midlands Magazines Ltd, which distributes community magazines in and around Wolverhampton.  I am also the Town Centre Manager for Bilston, organising events, marketing and security to support the local businesses.  I have a number of voluntary roles;  Trustee of Let Us Play, a charity that organises activities for mentally and physically disabled children in Wolverhampton.  Treasurer of Hands on Wednesfield, a community volunteer group  and is a Director of Bilston Town Football Club. I was previously a pupil at Aldersley School, being one of the first students, when it first opened in 1976 and am keen to give something back to the school that gave me my education.  I am keen to see that every child receives the help and support necessary to achieve their full potential.

I am a Technical Director at an environmental consultancy firm, heading up areas relating to Landscape Architecture and Planning. I am a Chartered Landscape Architect (of the Landscape Institute) and I have a degree in Geography and Environmental Management as well as a Masters degree in landscape architecture, where my research was on the importance of outdoor education and role of ‘forest schools’. These remain key areas of interest. I am also a local Councillor for the ward of Oxley, which Aldersley High falls within, and am also a local resident in the ward. Part of my role as a councillor has been to Vice-Chair the Children, Young People and Families Scrutiny Panel at the Council. I look forward to working alongside our Governors in supporting Aldersley High to provide the best educational experience possible for children and young people in our local area, helping to improve opportunities and building stronger links with the local community.

My name is Amir Reid, I am the Inclusion and Intervention Lead as well as a staff governor. My main focuses are diversity, inclusion and well-being. I am passionate about creating an environment where all people within the school community feel valued and are represented. I would like to ensure that equal opportunities are made for staff and students alike. It is important that our students not only feel included but are able to access their learning. As I support students directly with their pastoral needs, I have an unique insight which allows me be a voice for these students. I also believe in empowering our staff and making sure that positive mental health is a priority. I am willing to discuss some of the difficult issues that arise particularly in this area to help drive school improvements.

As a mum of two children, one currently attending Aldersley, and one due to start in September, when the opportunity became available to join the board of Governors I jumped at the chance

I am passionate about supporting the school and my local community, and as an ex pupil myself, I have very fond memories of the school.
