After half term, we will be launching the Year 8 Options process with your child. This is an exciting period of time for your child, as they will be provided with lots of information and guidance pertaining to GCSE and Vocational options and how these options will support them further in the future. The process will begin with a series of assemblies on the different subjects offered at Key Stage 4, and all students will be provided with a course booklet on Monday 25th February which will provide additional information about the courses on offer for next academic year.
At present, the year group are having individual meetings with our dedicated careers advisor in readiness for the formal start of the process, and we have been very impressed with how knowledgeable lots of students already are about both their University and career plans for the future.
With this in mind, I write to you today to invite you to our Options Evening on Thursday 28th February from 4pm until 6.30pm. During the evening, there will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and discuss their progress and attainment at Key Stage 3, alongside receiving your child’s second ROP (report on progress). In addition to this, there will also be a careers fayre and further information, advice and guidance on the options process. As part of this support, there will be a formal presentation which will provide you with key information about the process repeated three times at 4.30pm; 5.15pm and 6pm.
During the following week, students will be given an opportunity to opt in for taster lessons, before formally making their options during their Options Interviews with members of the Senior Leadership Team from Monday 11th March. All students will be provided with appointment slips for their interviews, and as parents and carers, you are welcome to attend these interviews to support your child further.
We look forward to supporting you and your child through this process in readiness for their move to the Upper School in September: if anyone has any questions or queries, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
